Woodes is the moniker for the 23 year old Melbourne based producer, singer and songwriter, Elle Graham, whose quick ascension into the limelight has caused many a head to turn.
Her musical debut with Atticus Beats, which was released late 2014 has already racked up over 65,000 SoundCloud plays and won the attention and praise of Alison Wonderland and Paces for her vocal attributes on her collaborative single, Decisions.
Her recent single Muddy, which was a creation from a collaborative project with producer Elkkle, garnered instantaneous praise across the blog-o-sphere in Australia as well as internationally. The single, which was pulled from a soon to be released EP was added to community radio across the country, won the coveted title of ‘Unsigned Artist of the Week’ by FBi, as well as receiving significant plays across triple j and double j. Music taste-makers Spotify also took notice and included Woodes x Elkkle as their feature artist in their coveted ‘Spotlight Australia and New Zealand Playlist.’
Jessie Giles is a spoken word artiste with a background in social justice and community development. Drawing on her experience growing up and working on community in Central Australia, her background as a psychology student, and her fascination with exploring the nuanced nature of the feminine, she uses poetry to debrief, heal and bring about positive social, cultural and individual change.
Wholehearted and vulnerable she addresses issues with strength, speaks from her belly of truths, evoking the healing nature of story telling to share and create a dialogue between those in the worlds of the western mainstream, the converted comrades and those fighting oppression. Known for bringing tears to eyes and silencing MCs, Jessie brings raw realities to the front row and is willing to cuddle humanity in awkwardness to develop resilience.
She has performed at SlamalamaDingDong, with the Centre for Poetics and Justice, at Mother Tongue, with Stillwaters! Storytelling Collective and has a number of exciting festival performances coming up.
